Cave drawings

This month during our afternoon Social Studies class we have been learning about how people lived during the Stone Age.

We studied about how people lived in caves, and used stones to make tools and weapons. We also discovered that Stone Age people were hunter-gathers and had to either hunt for their food or gathered food from plants and trees. Then we learned about how they made their clothes from animal skin.

Today we continued to discuss how life in the Stone Age was different from the lives we lead today. First, I asked the students what they thought Stone Age people did with no television or internet. One student replied, “Maybe they had a stone television on the wall.” When I said there was no TV in those days, she said, “Maybe they drew pictures on it!”

Which is exactly what they did.

We took a look at the types of drawings the Stone Age people used to paint on cave wall. Then it was the students’ turn to draw on their cave. They tried their best to draw realistic cave wall drawings using only red and black.

I’m drawing a caveman!

I’m drawing the Sun!

Red crayon, please!

I’m drawing a bat!

So many cave drawings!

The students drew cavemen, snakes, lions, Wooly Mammoths, the Sun, and all sorts of pictures.

Great job, everybody!
