Tell Me The Time

Hello,

We began today’s Pre-Access lesson with a quick recap of last week’s learning! Pupils were able to recall all types of devices we use to tell the time; from alarm clocks to sundials, and smart watches to sand timers! We spoke about all these different means of telling the time as well as why they are useful or not so useful!

We then progressed to look at the difference between some of these examples. We learnt about how some of these clocks are digital and some of them are analogue! After learning these new words, we played a quick game to help retain the vocabulary in their minds!

Next, we began to look at how we can use these different clocks accurately and actually begin to tell the time. Some pupils had some experience with telling the time, but it was a new skill for many of them! To do this, we spoke about the difference between the numbers, the clock hands, and even “am” and “pm”.

To learn how to tell the time, we worked in pairs and used the time mat. Pupils were able to work together to lay on the clock face, crating a long and a short hand (and minute hand and a hour hand). The rest of the pupils would then count around the clock in order to find the accurate time! In order to consolidate our learning, pupils also completed a worksheet, matching up analogue times to digital times.

Well done everyone, keep up the great work!

Charles
