In today’s Pre Access Science class, we learnt all about the magic of salt and how it can bring us luck. We recapped the different types of salt, where we can find salt, and how we can use salt. Today, we continued to learn some cool and crazy ways salt can help us!

We learnt about how sumo wrestlers use salt before fighting, how salt can protect us from bad spirits, and how it can even give us good or bad luck.

We also learnt about density and how mixing salt into water can change how objects float or sink. To test this, we used some normal water and a solution of salt mixed with water. We all  took turns to predict if different items would float or sink when placed into water.

We then tested this theory by using eggs. We found that when placed into regular water, the egg would sink to the bottom of the cup. However, when places into the salt water, the egg floated to the top, even after being pushed back down to the bottom!

Wow, what an amazing experiment! Well done everyone!
